Code Lists are created and maintained in conjunction with other standards bodies for convenience and benefit of cross - Industry uniformity. The addition of codes to CIECA Code lists is not considered maintenance; code additions are effective upon acceptance by the Architecture Committee, under the Standards Advisor Board (SAB).
Implementation Guides are documents that define more precisely how to implement a specific standard within a particular industry. In the case of CIECA, it is within the Collision Repair Industry. These Guides may apply to CIECA standards or to national or international standards that are utilized by CIECA. In the latter case, CIECA Staff and appointed CIECA liaisons will ensure the perpetual coordination of implementation guides with other appropriate industry or standards bodies.
CIECA EDI Implementation Guides that are of interest to the ASC X12N (Insurance Subcommittee shall be formally submitted to that subcommittee for further reviews and publication. Before or near completion of such an Implementation Guide, CIECA will submit the appropriate documentation to the ASC X12N Subcommittee to adopt the implementation guide for review, comment, and publication.
CIECA will not publish guides that are adopted and published by the ASC X12N Subcommittee except to make available interim copies for members that request them prior to publication by X12N. Those will be identified as 'CIECA approved Draft, subject to X12N certification." After publication by X12N, CIECA will direct inquiries to the X12N publication vendor.
CIECA XML standards and guides will be developed and published by CIECA at this time. XML standards coordination with various industry groups will be necessary to ensure the widest possible acceptance of XML standards. The governing document for CIECA's XML standards is the Business Message Specification (BMS) document. Each message application will relate to a specific Implementation Guide and the appropriate documentation.
The CIECA BMS supersedes/replace the CIECA EMS standard that was developed for the exchange of data between an estimating system and a body shop management system. Development and maintenance of the EMS standard ended in 2002, however, there implementation remains in wide use today. CIECA did not develop a universal CIECA Implementation Guide. Vendors have developed their own implementation guide.
